Why a magazine for the new New England?

Here’s a little-known factoid: New England is the only non-geographic regional name recognized by the federal government since the earliest days of tour country’s founding. Distinctly progressive from its inception, it was the birthplace of the industrial revolution, the seat of the abolitionist movement, an incubator for the early labor movement, and a literary voice for the restless union of states in the 1800s, with notable luminaries that included Louisa May Alcott, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry David Thoreau, Emily Dickenson and Edith Wharton.

Not much has changed, really, and that’s why New Paris Press exists. New England today remains home to a vibrant literary scene, as well as a launching pad for new music and cutting-edge technology and a center of politically progressive thinking. (This is, after all, where the original Tea Party spurred a revolution that championed freedom over tyranny.) NPP’s primary mission is to celebrate those qualities that remain the salient features of the 21st century’s New England.
